Description

Yering Station Winery, Yering, Yarra Valley

Yering Station can proudly boast that it is home to Victoria’s first vineyard, planted in 1838 by Scottish-born Ryne brothers. Throughout the 1800’s it was the largest vineyard in the Yarra Valley and wines from the site were winning awards internationally as far back as 1861. Of course, it is no surprise that Yering Station has changed hands many times over the course of years. The current owners, the Rathbone family, purchased the property in 1996 and have cultivated and expanded Yering Station into the remarkable winery it is today.

With an eye to history and tradition, Yering Station focuses on using centuries-old traditional techniques balanced with modern Yarra Valley wine making. Their flagship wine, Scarlett, is regarded as the pinnacle of their achievements to date, having been awarded an extraordinary 99 point score from James Halliday in Wine Companion. Yering Station produces 7 different labels: Little Yering, Scarlett, Reserve, Single Vineyard, Village, Yarrabank, and Yering Station.

The range of wines include:

  • Pinot Noir
  • Chardonnay
  • Rose
  • Shiraz
  • Shiraz Viognier
  • Cabernet Sauvignon
  • Riesling
  • Cuvèe
  • Brut Rose
  • Crème de Cuvèe
  • Grenache Shiraz Mourvèdre

Cellar Door

The Cellar Door at Yering Station is housed in the original winery building, circa 1859. Beautifully refurbished, it offers a range of tasting options across multiple levels.

For groups less than 10

No booking is required and guests can stroll into the winery building and have a tasting at the bar. Yering Station offers a tasting journey through their Yarrabank, Village, and Estate wine collections for $10 per person. For a further $5, guests can upgrade to a Reserve Tasting session. Served at the Reserve Tasting Bench, this session offers tastings of their full collection of Single Vineyard and Reserve wines. Both tasting options run for about half an hour and all fees are negated on purchase of wine.

For Groups larger than 10

There are also two private tasting spaces at Yering Station and are available 7 days a week. Bookings are essential and are only for groups of 10 or more guests. A Standard tasting session is offered for $10 per person and the Premium tasting for $15 per person. Both sessions run for half an hour. For those looking for a more indulgent experience, there is also an option for private tastings to conclude with a full glass of wine and cheese platter. This upgrade will cost a further $15 per person.

Groups of 20 or more

Guests are catered for on the second level of the heritage Cellar Door building. Matt’s Bar and Deck offers plenty of rustic charm and beautiful views of the estate and Yarra Valley surrounds. There is also an open-air deck to be enjoyed in finer weather, weather permitting.

Restaurant

With a focus on understated elegance, the restaurant at Yering Station proudly showcases small, local growers produce. The menu caters for either two course or three course sittings, at $70 or $85 per person. Children’s meals are available for $30 and include a meal, drink and dessert. While the main dining option is offered in their beautifully appointed restaurant, guests may also take advantage of the lounge or terrace spaces to enjoy cheese boards ($35) and a glass of wine. Yering Station also offers a private dining option in their Devaux room, for a maximum of 20 guests. Bookings for the restaurant and private dining room are essential, though walk ins may be catered for at the lounge and terrace.
