Description

Paradigm Hill, Merricks, Mornington Peninsula.

Paradigm Hill is a small, family run vineyard and winery located on the Mornington Peninsula. Owned by Ruth and George Mihay, viticulturist and winemaker respectively, Paradigm Hill is named after the paradigm shift that saw the couple surrender their established careers in the food and medical research industries. That move has seen the planting of a 10 acre vineyard back in 1999/2000 and the couple have developed a strong philosophy of wine making through minimal intervention during the wine making process. Uniquely, Paradigm Hill’s vineyard has a very low density planting of only 500 vines per acre. These have been grafted onto vigour limiting, salinity and  phylloxera insect resistant rootstock. The resulting low crop levels, at less than 2 tonnes per acre, produces a higher quality fruit which is then used in the production of their Pinot Noir, Shiraz, Pinot Gris and Riesling.

Cellar Door

The cellar door is only open 1st weekend of every month 12 noon to 5pm.  Preferred groups sizes limited 10 people.  To avoid disappointment the cellar door recommends booking prior to arrival.

The standard tasting fee is $20 per person. Tasting fee may be waived for those who purchase at least one bottle of wine per person.

Premium tasting

Visitors whom the cellar door receive by appointment outside of the cellar door hours would typically be given a personalized tour. This includes a brief visit to the vineyard (to see what is happening at that stage of the cycle), tour of the winery, and barrel tasting as well as a tasting of current release of wines. Those expressing interest may sometimes be treated to back vintage. This is regarded as a premium tasting session and usually takes about 1 hour to 1.5 hours.

As the appointments are out of cellar door hours, they are subject to the availability of the host.

There is a non-refundable fee of $25 per person and a minimum fee of $100 or 4 participants. These tastings are limited to a maximum of 20 people.

Visitors are offered a special 10% discount on all wine purchases on the day of their visit. A further 10%  discount is available for those who purchase 12 or more bottles.
