Port Phillip Estate, Red Hill South, Mornington Peninsula
Port Phillip Estate is one of Mornington Peninsula’s most remarkable wineries. Explore the architectural landmark built entirely from rammed lime stone walls. Giorgio and Dianne Gjergja are the owners, purchasing the Port Phillip Estate in 2000, and went on to acquire Kooyong in 2004. Later, in 2010, the estate was transformed by award winning Wood Marsh Architecture with construction of the building you see today. The curved and barrel building forms derive from the rolling hills of the site. The grand unmarked entrance, entices you with what may lay behind. Upon entry to the light filled dining room and cellar door, you are immediately captured by panoramic views of the vineyard and Western Port Bay.
The Mornington Peninsula is well known for Pinot Noir, accounting for 52% of the region’s production. Comparatively, Chardonnay amounts to just over a quarter at 27%. Port Phillip Estate produces outstanding versions of both. In particular, the Single Vineyard Chardonnay 2018 and the Morillion Single Block Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2018, both having received a top rating of 96. Chief wine maker Glen Hayley has proven that he knows how to produce top quality wine and, in 2012, James Halliday awarded top honors to Port Phillip Estate, naming it Winery of the Year.

Group Wine Tasting
The Cellar door manager conducts tastings for larger groups of 8 . These are available mid-week by appointment and in addition, an 11am slot on Saturdays subject to availability.
Wine Tasting and Cheese
Alternately, for $25 per person a cheese plater with local and imported cheese and six current released wines is available.
Kooyong Single block
This tasting is an opportunity to explore the unique terroir of the Kooyong vineyard in Tuerong, in particular the characteristic of the 2008 vintage. These premium wines standout given that only the best parcels of fruit are selected for the single block wines. $35 per person
Port Phillip Estate Single Vineyard and Single Block
This tasting is a chance to discover the unique terroir from the Balnarring and Red Hill vineyards. At the same time a compassion to single block Morillion Chardonnay and Pinot Noir . $25 per person.
This tasting samples the Chardonnay and Pinot across two ranges the Port Phillip Estate and the Kooyong. At the same time a compassion of a single block from each varietal.
Restaurant
The menu expresses a strong sense of the European influences, that matches the grandeur of the surrounds. Expect plenty of local produce, and the odd estate grown vegetables. Stuart Deller, head chef, does not disappoint. There’s also a more casual cellar door kitchen menu, offering the likes of Carpaccio of Altair beef , Reggiano and Linguine vongole. Described as “one of Australia’s top one hundred dining experiences, the very picture of a chic modernist château” by Gourmet Traveller, it is an experience to be enjoyed and repeated.
