What to Expect

  • Our driver pick-up times may vary depending upon your location. This will be part of the final itinerary we send you. All start times will adjust in our online booking system if you would like an indication.
  • We have plenty of time to explore Moonlit Sanctuary, if you would like to have a close encounter with a koala this must be book prior to the day.
  • We will arrive to the Penguin Parade approximately 1 hour prior  to when the penguins will arrive (sunset).
  • Grab your seats early or take the time to have something to eat.
  • You’re welcome to have some food from the onsite restaurant, or bring along your own.
  • Please bring warm clothes. As the parade is on the beach, even in summer, the wind can be cold.

Itinerary

  1. Pick Up – Melbourne CBD (please provide your address to be collected from)
  2. Travel 1 hour –
  3. Moonlit Sanctuary – enjoy 2 hours exploring
  4. 45 min break for lunch
  5. Travel 1 Hour 15 mins
  6.  30min boardwalk and scenic views
  7. Penguin Parade – enjoy 2.5 hours at the Centre and time for penguins to walk out from the shore.
  8. Travel -2 hours travel return to Melbourne

Our Private 1 Day Phillip Island Penguin Parade Tour is great for families or groups traveling together that don’t want to share the day with strangers on a public tour. Be aware that public tours sell by the seat and usually have a set itinerary. On this tour the vehicle is exclusively for you and your group. Also, another great advantage is that you can leave when you are ready to move on or return to your accommodation. On a public tour you must wait on the bus for everyone to return.
Yes! We will collect you from your Hotel, private address, office or convenient meeting point. All Melbourne Hotels included. This is a door to door private tour. If you would like to be returned to a different address please advise our booking office. We pick up from Melbourne and surrounding suburbs. Extra fees may apply if you are outside our usual pickup zone.
This tour time will adjust weekly based on the current sunset times. The Little Penguins do not begin coming ashore until it darkens and they feel safe. To make it easier our booking calendar will have a time adjustment once you select your ideal date.
The penguins start return to their burrows at sunset each night. They will wait together and swim to shore in large groups when they feel it is safe. As sunset changes so does their arrival time – anywhere from 5:30pm to as late as 9:30pm.
To be honest, you will be able to see all the penguins up close on the boardwalks once the penguins arrive and begin walking to their burrows. However, if you want the best seats to watch them walk ashore the Penguins Plus seating will be best. From here you will be able to see the majority of the penguins choose to waddle past. These tickets are at a premium but does give you the best view.
We highly recommend you bring a warm coat as the ocean wind can be quite cool even in summer. During winter warm gloves, hat and jackets are advised. You are not undercover so bring rainproof jackets where possible. The penguins parade will still go ahead in the rain so best to be prepared.
Yes, we even include suitable “roo food” as part of your private tour. We include one small cup per person. Its worth noting on really hot days the kangaroos will be happy to sit under trees away from the path you can feed on. However, we have never had a group that missed the opportunity to feed at least one Kangaroo or Wallaby. Your private guide will accompany you and your group into the Sanctuary and guide you to the kangaroo feeding area.
This tour package has been built and designed to book online. We don’t charge any hidden fees; for example no fuel surcharge, road tolls. The only exception is when you are outside our usual pick up zones. If you believe your pick up is outside our included pick zone please contact our office for a quote as extra fees may apply.
The Penguin Parade is a great experience for all ages. We can provide you a quote for children passengers. If you would like a child safety seat please let our office know.
The duration of the tour is 11-12 hours from pick up in Melbourne. Phillip Island is a 2 hour drive from Melbourne.

Proceeding  with a booking
  • Type or select the number of guests in your private group and choose your ideal date. Click on time shown in the booking calendar. Start time will vary based the penguins arrival time. 
  • Please choose from tour options and add-ons. Proceed to check and provide your pick up details and select option for payment. 
  •  If your tour includes meals we will contact your chosen lunch venue availability to update you as soon as possible.
  • Our booking office will send you an itinerary and tax invoice. We will then email and secure your admission to all relevant attractions .
  • We will require the pick-up/drop-off address for the day.
  • We will contact you the week of the tour date with any final adjustments. On occasion, someone can’t make it on the day. That’s fine, we just need to know 48 hours prior.
  • The day of the tour, the driver will arrive 15 minutes early, giving the group time to settle on the bus ready to go.
